Paul Island edge closer to WFA mid-season final
GRANGE HILL, Westmoreland — Paul Island FC moved into position to claim a place in the mid-season final of the Captain’s Bakery Westmoreland Football Association Major League on Thursday after beating Western Sports Academy 2-0 in their Zone B game at the Belle Isle Sports Complex.
Paul Island will need just a point from their rescheduled game against Chantilly Gardens on Monday to advance ahead of Westmoreland Police Youth Club (WPYC) with whom they share the lead on 10 points.
WPYC were also winners on Thursday, beating Savanah FC 2-1 at the Bay Road Sports Complex, thanks to goals from Sassamarley Barrett and Hector Linton.
Paul Island lead on a slim goal difference margin, but cannot afford to lose on Monday.
Savannah FC moved into third place on Thursday after beating Negril 3-0 at Frome Sports Grounds, Omar Stewart scoring twice for the winners who are now on seven points.
Extra Flexx lead in Zone A on 10 points, two more than Mt Grace who have a game in hand also on Monday, while Russia are in third place on seven points, having completed their round schedule.
