Best of Tech ’09

Though we are well into 2010, it always warms our hearts to look back at where we’ve been. So we jumped on our keyboards and went a looking back through the year.

Best in Video Gaming

Dragon Age: Origins

No, we didn’t give it to Modern Warfare 2, but that’s because it been so long since we’ve had a great RPG experience and this one gives that and more.

Best in Software

There’s only so many ways you can change the OS for a computer and too many ways you can go wrong. We’d rather focus on the innovation of mobile Phone OS and here Google’s Android takes the cake. Providing an all new open source arena for cell phone development and increasing Google’s claim on the world.

Best in Hardware

This is actually the easiest one for me to give away. The ATI Radeon HD 4890. Oh ATI you remained the cheaper alternative for so long. Only to be purchased because we couldn’t afford the NVidia card. But this bad boy sounded ATI return to glory and now with their 5xxx series (including the mammoth 5970) it seems they’ll be on top for a while.

Best in Smartphones

Was it the iPhone, the Palm Pre, or the Bold 9700? Sneaking in at the very end of the year was the infamous Google phone. We’re awarding this one on a purely software basis. The Nexus One is Google’s now flagship handset boasting its proud Android OS. We will be expecting great things.

Best Tech Trend

Do you really have to ask? I’m sure you can see this one coming. Mobile social networking whether on your iPhone, BB or other smartphone is causing quite the storm. Twitter and Facebook seem to be where to find all the info you needed this year. And being able to keep up to date with it all form the palm of your just seemed the only solution to not be left behind.

Well that’s whats worth remembering from 2k9. Some headlines worth mention though: 3G/4G, USB 3.0, Netbooks and let’s not forget digital readers like the Kindle and Kindle 2. Look for what 2010 has to offer.
