Bamboo improve after blanking Granville
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Bamboo snapped a four-game non-winning streak by blanking former champions Granville United, 2-0, in a rescheduled Captain’s Bakery Western Confed Super League game at Bamboo on Wednesday.
Dwayne Jumpp scored both goals for Bamboo in their first win over the former champions after both games between the clubs last year were drawn. The home team improved to 17 points and jumped into fourth place.
Seba United lead with 26 points from 10 games, three ahead of Reno, who have a game in hand. Frome FC are third on 21 points and are in with a chance of advancing to the mid-season final, set for early February.
Petersfield FC of Westmoreland won for the second time this season, edging Violet Kickers 2-1 at the UDC field as the Montego Bay club lost for the second time in four days after being beaten 2-0 by Seba on Sunday.
Richard McKenzie in the 16th minute and Dave Drummonds in the 19th gave Petersfield the lead at half-time, while Phillindo Burnett scored for Violet Kickers in the 76th.
The points took Petersfield to eight, same as Violet Kickers, who stay ahead of the Westmoreland team on goal-difference.
In the other game played Tuesday, Prosper took a point from their 0-0 draw against Exidos at Bounty Hall to move off the bottom of the tables for the first time this season, ahead of two-time defending champions Wadadah.
Prosper, who picked up their second point in as many games after a 4-4 draw against Petersfield on Sunday, improved to four points, one more than Wadadah.
