Ardenne, C-Bar into Conference quarters
THE semi-finalists in the ISSA Southern Conference Schools Basketball Leagues have been decided following Friday’s quarter-finals matches at the National Stadium Courts.
Ardenne and Calabar joined Hydel and St George’s in the last four of the Under-19 league after victories over St Jago and Kingston College.
Ardenne stopped St Jago, 53-45, while Calabar turned back Kingston College, 52-38.
In the feature game, Calabar made light work of their rivals with Vasil Hernandez scoring a game-high 17 points with 14 rebounds and Chevon Lewis bagging 14 points.
Ramoy Hemmings had 14 points and Damion Johnson 10 for the losers.
In the other game, Mario Williams led Ardenne with 15 points and nine rebounds, with support from Dimitri Gage with 12 points.
Le-Antonio Stephenson was St Jago’s topscorer with 13 points, followed by Jermaine Parker with 11.
On Wednesday, St George’s and Hydel booked their spots following victories over St Catherine and Wolmer’s, respectively.
St George’s had a nailbiting 63-61 win over St Catherine, while Hydel eased past Wolmer’s, 47-36.
Stefano Leslie and Kemar Cummings led the Light Blues with 18 points apiece, with Leslie posting nine assists and Cummings, 11 steals.
St Catherine’s Paul Richards was the game’s topscorer with an impressive 34 points and 17 rebounds.
In the other match, Mikhail Robinson scored a game-high 25 points with seven rebounds and seven steals and Keneil Allen 15 points and 14 rebounds in Hydel’s destruction of perrenial semi-finalists Wolmer’s.
Howard Harvey was Wolmer’s best players with 10 points.
Meanwhile in the U-16 competition Friday, St George’s and Campion booked their berths in the semis after defeating KC and Calabar, respectively.
St George’s scored a hard-fought 48-40 victory over North Street rivals KC, while Campion surprised Calabar, 50-36, in the other game.
Shawn Graham with 15 points and 11 rebounds and Javed Habib with 12 points and 15 rebounds led the way for St George’s.
KC’s topscorer Shacier Locke had a game-high 16 points and six rebounds.
Jonathan Mitchell bagged 15 points and Ajani Burton 13 points as Campion upstaged Calabar, for whom Achaz McKenzie posted a game-high 20 points and Orlando Mendez, 13.
On Wednesday, Ardenne defeated Vauxhall, 45-10, with Josef Thomas scoring a game-high 15 points for the winners.
JC beat St Catherine, 45-31, thanks to 20 points and 13 rebounds from Ricardo Wilson, and 13 points and 11 rebounds from Ajani Alleyne.
In tomorrow’s semis, Hydel face St George’s in an U-19 game at 4:00 pm, while JC College meet Ardenne in an U-16 equivalent at 2:30.
