Young Cornwall student dies after race
MONTEGO BAY, St James– The Cornwall College school fraternity has been plunged into a state of mourning following Friday afternoon’s death of 13-year-old Jaime Brown, who collapsed during a school cross country race along Sewell Avenue near the school.
Brown, who was a seventh grade student, was believed to have become exhausted during the race and expressed to another student he was running close to that he needed a drink of water.
However, he continued running to the top of the hill where the drink was said to be available. But he fell upon reaching the top of the hill.
An ambulance, which was on the school property at the time, was summoned and the boy transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Horace Brown, the father of the deceased and an ardent Sabbath keeper, was so overcome with grief he could not attend church yesterday.
When contacted he was about to leave for the airport to pick up his wife and the mother of the deceased, who was away in Miami.
“I am not making it at all. I’m not doing so well at all. I am going to the airport now to pick up his mother who was in Miami,” he said.
Brown’s death comes on the heels of that of young Arnett Gardens football player Nico Collins, who died after a morning training session nearly two weeks ago.
The 19-year-old Collins reportedly developed breathing problems following training on the sands at Cable Hut Beach in Bulls Bay, St Andrew. He died by the time he was rushed to the hospital.
