Richards scores for Red Bulls in pre-season
LA MANGA, Spain (CMC) — Jamaica international Dane Richards netted the first US Major League Soccer (MLS) pre-season goal for the New York Red Bulls on Monday when he helped them draw 1-1 with Russian side CSKA Moscow.
In Spain on a two-week pre-season trip ahead of the 2010 MLS campaign, the Red Bulls grabbed the lead on an early goal from Richards but the Russians rallied for the draw.
The Red Bulls went ahead in the sixth minute when forward Juan Pablo Angel found midfielder Richards, who converted for the early lead.
CSKA, who have qualified for the first knockout round of the UEFA Champions League, came back for the draw.
The Red Bulls had a disappointing 2009 MLS campaign and have a new head coach in Sweden’s Hans Backe.
