LPGA vet warms up for Raceway Golf event
ROSE HALL, St James — Christine Kim, an eight-year Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) tour player, got a jump-start on the other contestants in the Mojo 6, an LPGA-sanctioned Raceway Golf event to be held at the Cinnamon Hill course in April after playing the course the last two days.
The American, who has earned nearly US$3.5million on the tour, is one of 16 players already confirmed for the tournament to be played in a new format and to be broadcast on the American TV station CBS in early May.
Kim, who was making her first rip to the island, was impressed with what she saw, describing the country as “unbelievably beautiful”, and the Cinnamon Hill course as having a “gorgeous layout”.
After playing the course for two days, Kim — who left the island yesterday — said Cinnamon Hill was “challenging” and predicted it would get the best out of the players come April.
By the time the Mojo 6 tournament comes around, Kim would have played six tournaments, starting with an LPGA event in Thailand this month, another in Singapore, as well as two more in Australia.
According to the Mojo 6 website, “Raceway Golf is a new, unique golf format that preserves the fundamentals of golf, while adding cumulative scoring and the opportunity to choose your opponent.”
The tournament is played over two days and includes more than 30 six-hole matches in 30 hours and is a speeded up version of the game.
