Mona claim another Primary Netball title
MONA registered an exciting 10-9 win over Clan Carthy to capture the 2010 INSPORTS Kingston and St Andrew Primary Schools netball title at the Leila Robinson Courts on Friday.
Goal-attack Tori-ann Whyte scored all 10 goals from 20 attempts to lead Mona to victory.
In a closely contested final between the two teams who played in the same zone in the preliminary round, the first goal came after over three minutes when Whyte put her team in the lead and followed with another.
Clan Carthy produced a number of turnovers and Khadijah Graham pulled back a goal after a number of efforts as the half ended 4-3 in Mona’s favour.
The teams netted two goals apiece in the early minutes of the second period, with the former ahead 6-5 before Graham made the scores level at 6-6.
She netted again to put Clan Carthy in the lead for the first time, but the winners replied quickly to again tie the scores at 7-7.
It was a ding-dong tussle thereafter as both teams stepped up the hunt for quick goals, but often lost possession of the ball. Whyte put Mona ahead 8-7, while Sashalee Douglas evened at 8-8.
Whyte netted to make it 9-8, but seconds later, Graham tied the scores at 9-9. However, Mona capitalised on an error and Whyte gave her team an exciting win seconds before the final whistle.
