Supermodel Naomi Campbell is going to earthquake-hit Haiti to see for herself how the £77 million raised by the British people has been spent.

She plans to jet to the disaster-hit Caribbean island in April after a holiday in Jamaica with her boyfriend, Russian billionaire Vladimir Doronin.

The visit is the idea of the prime minister’s wife Sarah Brown, who has become a close friend of Naomi through the White Ribbon Alliance charity.

Brown had hoped to go to Haiti herself but has found it impossible to get away with the general election looming.

So instead she encouraged Naomi, a global ambassador for the charity that saves the lives of pregnant women and newborn babies, to make the trip.

Naomi, 39, who last week staged her annual Fashion For Relief show at Somerset House in aid of Haiti, told me: “I want to do a really low-key trip and fly on a regular flight without any aides and any fuss and get on the ground and do some work.”

“I think it’s amazing that we have raised so much money and, like Sarah, I think that it’s really important that we see where the money is going.”

“I’m passionate about going over to help all those children. My heart goes out to all of them.”

White Ribbon patron Brown said: “I would love to go, but at the moment there is too much going on. We are really hoping that Naomi can go.”

Naomi’s show raised over £1 million to build medical centres and orphanages after January’s earthquake killed 230,000.

On a happier note, friends say Naomi is desperate to start a family with Vladimir.

“She’s about to turn 40 and wants children,” said a pal. “She really loves Vladimir and says he’s Mr Right.”

Paltrow packs on pounds

Her long-distance marriage to Coldplay frontman Chris Martin seems to be taking its toll on Gwyneth Paltrow.

The actress is currently filming in Nashville, while he is in London looking after their children, Apple and Moses.

According to sources on the set of Love Don’t Let Me Down, Gwyneth, 37, has been comfort eating and piling on the pounds.

She has also been confiding in her co-star, country music singer Tim McGraw, 42.

“Gwyneth and Tim have become very close,” says a source. “He’s married and older than her, but he’s a good sounding board. In recent weeks her macrobiotic diet has gone out of the window.”
