Haute Savage Bling!
With Carnival season now in high gear, Threads and Trends headed down South for inspiration from young, talented, jewellery and costume designer Kim Lee-Inniss, whose Haute Savage jewellery collection is highly sought after by young fashionistas. Inniss, who juggles her time between working as the production assistant for Trinidadian publication Scorch Magazine, and designing costumes for several Carnival bands including Spice, Tribe and Evolution, is also known for her contemporary artistic pieces made from metals, gold, silver and non-traditional materials like satin ribbons, beads, feathers and even paper. In an interview with Threads and Trends, the 29- year-old graduate of the Ontario College Of Art and Design, explained that her one-of-a-kind creations are sculptural and artistic as she leans towards fantasy and free form pieces: “I am inspired by my surroundings and anything artistic, and while in Toronto I was surrounded by fantasy and art.” The Trinidadian native, plans to open her own boutique by the year’s end: “The response is overwhelming and people love the designs, so I am currently working on setting up my own studio by the end of the year.” Here’s a sneak peek at some of the collections that are sure to inspire you to jazz up your Carnival wardrobe this year.
