Revelations FC make senior debut in Claro football league today
ROSE HALL, St James — Last season’s Division One champions Revelations FC will make their St James Football Association’s Claro Senior League debut today when they play away to Mountain Villa at the Wyndham field in a Zone A game starting at 3:30 pm.
Revelations earned promotion to the Senior League for the first time last season after beating Barrett Town in the final of the Division One competition.
The Michael Baugh-coached team will be among those seeking the title and promotion to the Western Confederation Super League next season.
Five games are down to be played in the Senior League today following last Saturday’s start of the competition, which saw former champions Tomorrow’s People beating Granville City 3-1 at Jarrett Park in a Zone B game.
The Senior and Division One competitions were launched last week at a press conference in Kingston where the details of the four-year $13 million deal were outlined.
Under the new deal, eight teams will get prize monies in both competitions and the winners of the Senior League will take home $150,000, with the runner-up getting $90,000; third place, $60,000 and fourth place, $40,000. Fifth place will take home $20,000; sixth place, $15,000; seventh place, $10,000 and eighth place, $5,000.
The 12 teams in both leagues are divided into two zones and the top two teams on points after home and away games will advance to the semi-finals.
The other games down to be played today will see Mt Salem and Salt Spring United — both demoted from the Western Confederation Super League last season — meeting in Mt Salem. Fogo will host Abes in Flanker; Salt Spring Roses and Barrett Town will meet at the UDC Field and North Gully Ambassadors will meet last season’s beaten finalists Melbourne, at Albion.
Meanwhile, five Division One games will be played tomorrow including a double-header at Bickersteth where last season’s Division Two champions Reggae Youths will meet Defenders at Tucker and Copperwood and Juniors will meet at Bickersteth starting at 1:30pm. Montego Bay Boys Club will take on Champions at the UDC Field; Upsetters and Little Miami will be at Albion, while Marl Road and Seaview will meet in the second game at Bickersteth starting at 3:30 pm.
This season, the winners of the Division One will get $90,000 and the runners-up, $60,000; third place, $40,000, fourth place, $30,000; fifth place, $20,000; sixth place, $15,000; seventh place, $10,000 and eighth place, $5,000.
