MUNRO College executed and Papine High Girls delivered to retain their ISSA/JHF Schools U-19 titles yesterday at Mona.

Shea Chambers netted in the 35th minute for Munro College to pip Jamaica College (JC) 1-0 and claim their fifth consecutive hold on the trophy, while Tashana Edwards crashed home her fifth goal for Papine High to down St Andrew High, 1-0.

Munro College, guided by Fitzroy Rowe, found a way to shackle JC’s skillful Kemar Mitchell while the Andrea Thomas-coached Papine High dipped into their bag of tricks to take out St Andrew High’s thorny midfield while throwing a string of attacks into their tough defence.

Said Rowe: “We played as a team… ninety-five per cent of the time our players played to instruction. The guys played their hearts out and we have our fifth consecutive win.

“We nullified Kemar by forcing JC to play deeper into the field and we knew that we are far better than our opponents,” explained Rowe.

JC’s coach Orane Charlton was disappointed his team had three ‘sitters’ in a spell of attack and that one error caused them the loss.

Meanwhile in the Girls final, for Thomas it was just another day for business:

“Andrew’s gave us a fight, but we played them before and knew where their weak spot was and we had a lot of loopholes that they could have capitalised on. We’re grateful that we have our trophy and we now move on to the U-16,” she explained.

St Andrew High’s coach Dr Mitchell Holt said she was “disappointed” but not “devastated”, adding, “Papine High players ran hard, but we had a lot of opportunties to score.

“Their strategy was a simple one — they played with four backs, no midfield at all, banging the ball to the forward line and bypassing our players.

“They saved their best for last and we have never seen them play like this before,” she added graciously.

Wolmer’s Boys’ grabbed third place after Tivoli High failed to show yesterday, while on Monday, Krystal Barrett scored twice for Excelsior High to beat Alpha Academy 2-0 in the battle for third place among the girls.
