‘Do the right thing’ – Woman informs JPS about electricity thief
Dear Claudienne
I live in a rural area and my husband and I have parted since December 2008. However, he left a tenant on the ground floor of our two-storey house. I live on the top floor. The tenant has been stealing electricity even before my husband moved out of the house.
In 2009, the Jamaica Public Service Company came and cut off the tenant’s light from the pot head. However, the tenant reconnected the light illegally. He dug out the meter and bridges the electricity every night from the wires. If the JPS cuts the service wire from the road, I would also be without electricity even though the tenant and I have different meters.
What I don’t understand is why the JPS won’t take the steps to disconnect his light or have him prosecuted.
Please check on this for me.

Dear RS
Tell Claudienne made the JPS aware of your complaint. The JPS said that when they visited your house they did not see any illegal connection, but noticed that there was no meter downstairs. The JPS said that they have disconnected the electricity for the ground floor from the pot head and have also put on a barrel lock that will prevent any illegal theft in the future.
Good luck.
Dear Claudienne
I worked with the JUTC from 2000 to 2006 and with a security company from 2007 to 2009. On January 7, I applied to the National Housing Trust for my refund for 2002 and was instructed to apply for a total refund since I had reached the age of 62.
I took letters showing the contributions from both employers to the NHT office and was told that it would take two weeks from January 7 to process. However, when I went back to the NHT on Januaury 27, the refund was not ready. On February 17, I was told that they were having problems with the computers and when I went back on March 2 they said that I could only be refunded for the year 2002 and the payment would be ready on March 11.
I need the money urgently as I am not working. Please check with them for me.

Dear CN
We note that you have now received the refund for the year 2002. The NHT has advised Tell Claudienne that refunds for 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2009 will be ready in April. However, they are still checking to see if they received the final returns for the year 2008 from your employer.
Good luck.
