We are Jamaicans… Not PNP or JLP
WHETHER you voted or not, your member of parliament is there to serve you. Once you live in the constituency, the MP is your political representative and you have the right to make certain demands of him/her.
Although, quite arguably, some people expect too much from their MPs, in the Jamaican context their roles are unclear — particularly since they have no known job descriptions. Over the next few months, the Sunday Observer will be visiting all 60 constituencies and asking Jamaicans to rate their MPs in our “We are Jamaicans” series.
Dear Mr Hylton,
After lengthy discussions with the people in your constituency, the following four issues emerged as the most pressing:
1) The stench and smoke from the Riverton landfill and the ease of accessibility to it, which present public health hazards to those who live next to it and eke a living from it, as well as surrounding communities.
2) Gullies and drains that residents claim have not been cleaned for decades, residents claim.
3) Incomplete and unoccupied houses in Riverton Meadows and the school building in Seaview, which deny people the right to good housing and education.
4) Insufficient skills training and employment opportunities.
Sincerely,
Kimone Thompson

I am not aware of anything that he’s doing. I don’t see him walking in the community. Whatever issues arise in the community, there’s no mediation from him or his team on our behalf.
