Weekend ‘IT’ list

Continuing our Easter edition of the Weekend ‘IT’ list, TEENage has the best suggestions for the perfect places to be before school starts next week.

Friday

Bacchanal J’Ouvert

Last week we travelled to Ocho Rios to enjoy the soca, paint, friends, beach and performances by Fay-Ann Lyons and Bunji Garlin. This week the final paint fete for the Bacchanal 2010 series is based in Kingston.

Back at the Mas Camp, soca warriors can enjoy the music, vibe and paint throughout the night. Under the theme “Buccaneer’s Revenge” patrons can start heading out at 10:00pm to enjoying the music provided by DJ Omar C from Sparkles Productions and DJ Private Ryan from Miami.

Of course, there’s no major Bacchanal Jamaica event without a stunning performance by a soca crooner. This year, Tobagonian Shurwayne Winchester will be entertaining with hits like Dead or Alive, Don’t Stop and 2010 single Murdah. Accompanying him on the stage will be the popular soca band Imij and Company. Known for their high-energy performances, both Shurwayne and Imij and Company are bound to make your night unforgettable.

If you’ve never been to Bacchanal J’ouvert, then this year is the year to get out there and have fun with friends. Be sure to not get too dolled up, though; this event is probably the only one in Kingston where a T-shirt, shorts and sneakers are 100 per cent acceptable (who cares what you have on, you’ll be coated in paint by morning).

At a cost of $1800 presold, $2500 at the gate and $4000 for the platinum all-inclusive experience tickets are available at Mas Camp, LG Brown Service Centre, Suzie’s Bakery, Training Camp, MegaMart (Waterloo and Portmore) and Ammar’s (King Street, Sovereign and Village Plaza).

Saturday

W

This event has had four successful stagings so far. Promoted by Wright Image Entertainment, the event is known for providing the ‘Wright friends, Wright music, Wright vibe and Wright atmosphere.’ So are you catching the trend here… Ok, let me help you, this Saturday the ‘Wright’ place to be is at W!

Now this isn’t the regular presold/at-the-gate party. The one-of-a-kind is more like a club type party. Taking place at Club Privilege, patrons pay an entrance cost of $1000 and can enjoy drink specials all night. Come out early and get into the music with resident disc jockey, DJ Bambino.

So, if you’re 18 and over and you have never indulged in the W experience, bring a friend and come dance, mingle and party until you say when. For more info, e-mail the promoters at info@wright-image.com or check them out at www.wright-image.com.

Sunday

Bacchanal Road March

Coming in for the big finale of the season is Bacchanal Jamaica’s Road March. After months of designing, organising and getting the soca warriors pumped, this Sunday it all comes alive.

Marching from Mona High to the Mas Camp, this year’s theme, ‘Lost Treasures’, will be completely unveiled through the costume bands as revellers ‘chip down di road’. Although you probably won’t get the full experience without being in a band for the entire journey, you can meet the group along their route and join in on the fun. Have no fear, though, for a whole-day experience you can check out Big Wall on West King’s House Road.

Be sure to see your Daily Observer for more information on the expected route and traffic changes throughout the day.
