Cocktails With… Reneé Hartley
Bacchanal Jamaica Public Relations Co-ordinator Reneé Hartley can hardly hide her excitement ahead of the road march (which takes place in Kingston today) as she sashays across the poolside at The Mayfair Hotel in full carnival regalia. We’re sharing cocktails and ‘revelling’ in the good stuff!
What are you sipping?
I’m sipping a virgin piña colada… no alcohol for me while on the road.
So what can revellers expect when they hit the streets (today)?
A state of absolute euphoria and an intoxicating vibe that’s fun for the whole family.
You’re a self-professed carnival pro. How long have you been jumping?
From Chicken Lickin’ days (laughs).
Socialite or homebody?
Homebody… (laughs) no, I am… seriously!
What’s the most interesting thing about carnival?
The upcoming artistes and I am looking forward to some great soundtracks for the road.
Flats or stilettos?
Flats, because all I do when I go out is dance and I can’t do that well in stilettos.
What’s your essential style item?
Chapstick.
What’s in your pouch?
I take this pouch on the road with me because it’s water-resistant and it can carry my BlackBerry, my keys and my chapstick.
When you’re not in costume, what’s your style?
I love dresses; jeans are for work.
Who does your hair?
Charmaine Thompson of CT Styles, West King’s House Road.
Who does your nails?
Claudia Ford at Trend Setters, Baron’s Plaza.
What perfume are you spraying?
Celine Dion
TV or a good book?
TV… I learn better when things are told to me.
What are you watching?
Anything with truth…love Locked Up Abroad on National Geographic.
What’s your idea of the perfect date?
Being in my favourite place in Jamaica, which is Portland, in a rustic villa.
What’s your idea of the perfect man?
A guy who’s funny and can make me laugh. He also must have good hygiene and be ambitious.
What’s in your car stereo?
Soca by various artistes.
What’s your idea of true happiness?
Being able to wake up every day and having family and true friends in my life.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
‘If you want good, your nose have to run’ and ‘always pray’.
And 10 years from now?
I hope to have a family by then and be a high achiever at whatever career path I choose.
