Perfect start for Munro, Alpha in U-16 hockey
DEFENDING champions Munro College and title-chasing Alpha Academy had the best of the first week of the ISSA/Jamaica Hockey Federation Schools Under-16 tournament after winning both their matches during play last Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Shanar White racked up an incredible eight goals from the two matches after scoring all six in Alpha’s 6-0 demolition of Mona High School on Wednesday and added two more on Friday in her teams 4-0 win over St Hugh’s. Her teammate Brittany Smith also scored two against St Hugh’s.
Meanwhile Munro College, after travelling for many years to Kingston to play matches, will host two home matches this season.
The defending champions earned a walkover against St Andrew Technical High for which they were awarded a 3-0 victory and Nye Lyn hit the target twice in Munro’s 5-0 win against Wolmer’s Boys.
St Andrew High School, schoolgirl’s Under-16 defending champions, showed Immaculate Conception High no mercy on Friday in a 7-0 win. Camille Griffiths sizzled with three goals, Demi Nicholson adding two, with Tanisha Jackson and Simone Gardner contributing one goal apiece.
St Andrew High’s opening match against St Hugh’s last Wednesday was rescheduled.
Mona High Boys have shown good form in the opening week, thrashing Jamaica College 4-0 and drawing 0-0 with Papine High.
Matches resume tomorrow with Papine playing Wolmer’s Girls’ at 1:00 pm and Excelsior meeting The Queen’s at 3:00 pm, while in the boys’ competition, Excelsior oppose Wolmer’s Boys’ at 2:00 pm and St Andrew Technical take on Tivoli Gardens at 4:00 pm.
