Get the Look – Sexy summer hair!

Photographer – Joseph Wellington

Model – Monique Thelwell

Hair by – Marva Keane, Kelsie’s Beauty Salon & Spa

Want a hairstyle that’s trendy and cool enough for the summer?

Try Monique’s ponytail. It’s quick, easy to create with all hair types and is a great no-fuss way to add character to your outfit; plus, it’s also durable and easy to maintain. We’ll tell you how to ‘Get the Look’ in three easy steps.

Step 1:

Directions for dreadlocked and relaxed hair types — wash, deep-condition, dry and moisturise hair. For those with natural hair, you can use a texturiser to soften, or use a flat iron or pressing comb to straighten it after drying.

Step 2:

Directions for relaxed and natural hair types – Make a side part at the front of your hair (to the side that best suits your face) and leave this section loose to make a fringe, then spritz hair with holding spray and gather into a sleek ponytail at the crown of your head.

Directions for dreadlocked hair types dreadlocks, you can simply gather hair neatly into a ponytail at the crown, leaving a few tendrils loose to make a side-swept fringe.

Step 3:

Directions for relaxed and natural hair types – If your hair is long, separate it into sections and flat- iron (if necessary), or simply use a curling iron to curl hair in sections, framing the face. If you have short hair, you can add hair extensions to the fringe and ponytail sections, then flat-iron hair if necessary and curl to frame the face, spraying hair with oil sheen to finish. The trick is to make it ‘piecey’ and a little messy to give it an edgier look.

* Tip – Choose human hair extensions as they are more durable, and match the hair to your own hair type for a more natural look.

Directions for dreadlocked hair types – Plait or twist the ponytail section tightly together and wrap hair in the fringe section into little bumps, then spray with oil sheen for an extra boost. Pull these out later for a sexy, wavy effect.

Get The Look

Hairstylist Marva Keane shampooed Monique’s hair with Motions shampoo; her hair was then deep-conditioned using HP Deep Conditioning Treatment and blow-dried. Marva then applied Motions hair moisturiser to the hair, then sprayed it with Motions Light Hold Working Spritz and brushed it neatly into a ponytail at the crown of her head. After she then added Amazing Kanekalon 3 layer #1 human hair extensions to the fringe, which she curled and swept to the side. She also wrapped extensions around Monique’s ponytail, which she flat-ironed in sections to frame the face, and sprayed hair with Motions Oil Sheen & Conditioning Spray for added shine.
