St James FA, Evans to meet on Monday
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Former president George Evans and the St James FA are to meet on Monday to discuss his recent resignation.
Evans, who took over from Orville Powell in April 2009, tendered his resignation early last month, citing what he described as a breach of procedures and protocol that has left the board “a laughing stock”.
The Observer learnt late Wednesday that a meeting had been convened and the parties are to meet on Monday.
Evans tendered his resignation while he was on vacation in England, but the FA rejected the resignation, saying it would seek to persuade Evans to change his mind upon his return to the island.
The split came after the St James FA’s Disciplinary Committee had banned former national goalkeeper and goalkeeper coach, Warren Barrett, for five years and fined
him $25,000.
Barrett, who was found guilty by the St James FA for assaulting a referee during a Western Masters League semi-final game on July 25, was reinstated by the JFF on the recommendation of the letter after he was suspended days after the incident at
Jarrett Park.
Reports coming out of the disciplinary meeting, however, are that the meeting had never made any recommendations as to Barrett’s status with the national programme.
In fact, according to sources, the minutes showed where the meeting showed a decision had been taken not to get involved in that aspect of the matter.
