Rusea’s cruise, Manchester draw

LUCEA, Hanover — Rusea’s High School cruised to their fifth win of the season after edging Hopewell High 1-0 in their return-leg ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel daCosta Cup schoolboy football game at Colin Miller Complex here yesterday.

Brian Brown scored for Rusea’s in the 42nd minute, his seventh goal of the season as they eased to 15 points, nine more than Frome Technical, whose game against Herbert Morrison in Montego Bay was one of eight games not played due to waterlogged fields cause by the inclement weather.

Meanwhile, three schools which came into the round with perfect win records dropped points, while Grange Hill lost for the first time this season.

Marcus Garvey Technical, Manchester High and Paul Bogle all saw their records soiled.

Marcus Garvey are still to concede a goal in five games, but were held 0-0 by Brown’s Town; Manchester High drew 1-1 against Christiana, whom they had beaten 5-0 in the first round, while Paul Bogle lost for the first time, edged 1-0 by St Thomas Technical, who took over the lead in Zone L on 10 points, one more than the losers.

Godfrey Stewart joined idle Mannings School on 10 points in Zone E after beating Grange Hill 1-0.

In Zone A, leaders St James High, Cornwall College and Muschett all won by 3-2 margins.

Jason Malcolm scored twice for St James in their win over Spot Valley, leading 1-0, then going behind 2-1 before scoring the last two goals of the game.

Nickyle Webber scored twice in the first half for Cornwall, who won their third straight game over Green Pond and snapped a two-game losing skid.

Both teams finished with 10 players after Cornwall’s Oshane Levy was sent off after just three minutes on the field after replacing Pedro Blake, along with Green Pond’s Convantai Reid.

Ramone Brown scored twice as Muschett moved into third place with a win over William Knibb in the Trelawny ‘derby’.

Romario Plunkett scored a hat-trick and Ian Campbell got two goals as Ocho Rios romped to a 6-1 win over Albert Town.

Dwayne Fibourne also got a hat-trick as Annotto Bay spanked Brimmervale 6-1 and Dellon Whyte also scored a three-timer for Knox College and Fabian Dennis a brace in their 7-1 demolition of Alston High.

Petersfield also won buy a 7-3 margin over Maud McLeod, with Dickeno Williams and Andre Vassell each scoring two goals and Oshane Fraser, Desroy Phillips and a Maud McLeod defender getting the others.

Defending champions St Elizabeth Technical gained a measure of revenge against Lacovia with a 4-0 win as Davian Ash scored a brace, while Munro College scored a similar win over Maggotty and DeCarteret beat Mile Gully 3-1.

Clement Brown scored a hat-trick for Morant Bay in their 5-2 victory over Robert Lightbourne, while Cardell Kennedy scored twice as Port Antonio beat FCair Prospect, 3-1.
