Old Harbour humble Charlemont 2-0
CHARLEMONT, St Catherine — Charlemont High tasted their first defeat of the ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel daCosta Cup schoolboy season after being blanked 2-0 by Old Harbour in a rescheduled Zone J game yesterday.
Old Harbour thus closed the gap on the leaders to three points with two games in hand as they extended their streak in the preliminary round to 24 dating back to 2008 when Linval Dixon took over.
Charlemont lead with 15 points from six games, while Old Harbour are next with 12 from four — well ahead of third-placed Ewarton, eight from six.
Tasief Johnson scored for Old Harbour in the first half, while 16-year-old captain, Kemar Myers, added the second in the second half.
Meanwhile, Rusea’s and St Mary Technical will seek to extend their five-game streaks when the competition continues this afternoon with 24 games in nine groups.
Rusea’s will host last-placed Maldon in Lucea and after conceding just one goal in their previous five outings, should have the edge over Maldon, who are yet to score a goal while conceding 11.
St Mary Tech are coming off a 2-1 win over St Mary High on Monday, but after beating Annotto Bay 1-0 in the first round, cannot take anything for granted.
Annotto Bay are the most prolific teams in the group with 19 goals, but have also conceded seven.
Marcus Garvey Tech and Munro College share the distinction of not allowing a goal so far in the season and are expected to continue this trend against York Castle and Mile Gully, respectively.
In Zone A, St James will seek to make amends after being held 1-1 by Muschett in the first round when they meet at Jarrett Park.
Despite playing without Allan Ottey and Ricardo Morris on Monday, St James managed a 4-1 win over winless William Knibb, led by a hat-trick from Jason Malcolm.
Muschett, who are only two points back of St James and coming off a win over Green Pond on Monday, will pose a bigger challenge.
Defending champions St Elizabeth Technical will seek to beat DeCarteret for the second time this season and keep the pressure on group leaders Munro, who are ahead by a point.
Glenmuir are threatening to run away with Zone I unless second-placed Denbigh can hold them this afternoon.
Glenmuir, who won the first-round game 3-0, lead with 16 points from six games, seven more than Denbigh, who have two games in hand, and Garvey Maceo, who are also on nine points, but from five games.
Garvey Maceo will play away to Kemps Hill.
Titchfield, who are unbeaten over their last three games, will seek to avenge a first-round loss to leaders Buff Bay in Zone K, while Port Antonio and Happy Grove, who drew 1-1 in the first round, will also meet.
The lead in Zone L could change hands for the third time in the last three rounds, with leaders Paul Bogle not playing.
Paul Bogle lead with 12 points, two more than St Thomas Technical and Morant Bay, who will both be in action against Robert Lightbourne and Yallahs, respectively.
