Old Harbour win; Knox join Manchester
OLD HARBOUR, St Catherine — Old Harbour High continued their relentless march to the Inter-zone round of the ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel daCosta Cup schoolboy competition, winning their fifth straight game yesterday against Bog Walk, 2-0, at Soya Oval.
Devroy Grey scored his fourth goal of the season and Clinton Ashley his first as Old Harbour improved to 15 points, one behind leaders Charlemont, who were held 1-1 by Dinthill Technical, who are unbeaten in four consecutive games.
Bog Walk’s loss eliminated them from Inter-zone contention, joining 12 other schools on that list.
The other schools that will not advance are Brimmervale in Zone D; Little London in Zone E; Maggotty, Lacovia and Mile Gully in Zone F; Alston and Porus in Zone G; Tacius Golding in Zone I; Happy Grove and Fair Prospect in Zone K, and Yallahs and Robert Lightbourne in Zone L.
In another Zone J game yesterday, McGrath scored their first win of the season, edging Ewarton 2-1.
Andre Morrison scored a hat-trick, Jusimare Cummings and Lawrence Stone scored a brace each as Spalding High hammered Alston 9-2 in Zone G.
Delon White also had two goals for Knox College in their 2-0 win over Porus as they join Manchester High on 19 points.
It is understood that Manchester, who lead on goal difference, refused to play their game against Cross Keys because of the condition of the field.
In a Zone H game, Vere Technical improved to 10 points, two behind second-placed Edwin Allen with a game in hand after a 4-0 beating of Claude McKay.
The Clarendon College-Lennon game was not played due to a waterlogged field at Lennon.
