Audi Q5 tames Doug ‘Hollywood’ Gore
RACING cars triggered racing heartbeats for spectators and hardcore fans as speed embraced excitement on a barricaded Howard Cooke Boulevard in Montego Bay.
Fans came out to support their favourites in the motor racing scene at this year’s staging of the Screaming Streets city race. The event was held on Sunday, October 10 in honour of the second city’s 30th Anniversary celebrations. Racing fans were left speechless at the capabilities of the drivers and the power and performance of the racing machines.
The day’s activities officially began at 11:30 am but the real start came when Doug “Hollywood” Gore took his first lap. This being the first of many appearances throughout the day by the popular Montegonian who is reknowned for his exhilirating and scintillating style. He chose to open the event in an eye-catching Ibis white 2011 Audi Q5 SLine which was made available to him by the brand’s official dealership ATL Autohaus which is newly opened in Montego Bay at Bogue City Centre and at Oxford Road in Kingston.
As he hit the makeshift track in the Audi Q5, Gore explained that he reflected on the handling capabilities of other SUVs and he was eager to put the Q5 to the test.
Gore went speeding down the boulevard to execute “the donut” one of his most illustrious driving moves and a guaranteed crowd pleaser. His brilliance at showcasing this manouevre has brought him acclaim throughout the Caribbean. Things did not go according to plan however and it was drama of a different sort as a surprised Doug “Hollywood” Gore came to an abrupt halt when the Q5 made use of its intuitive quattro® permanent all-wheel drive support technology, which quite literally stopped the championship driver in his tracks. Despite several attempts to get the Q5 to “mis-handle”, even in the wet conditions of the day and with traction control off, quattro® prevailed.
The quattro® permanent all wheel drive supports you when cornering off-road and on wet roads, quattro distributes the driving force to both axles as required, this provides extremely good traction. The Electronic Stability Program (ESP) implemented in the Q5 helps keep the vehicle travelling in its intended direction by utilising the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Anti-Slip Regulation (ASR) and Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD). The Audi Q5 innovative braking system has implemented a number of ingenious features to help maximise braking effectiveness in wet conditions and keep the wheels firmly on the ground.
This beautifully made German engineered vehicle demonstrates why Audi prides itself on safety and holds the belief that prevention is the best safety feature of all.
