Six D’Cup players banned
SIX players, four from Brimmervale High and two from Petersfield High, were on Tuesday banned for the remainder of the ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel daCosta Cup schoolboys’ football season following two separate incidents on October 6.
Curtis Francis, Shane Thompson, Tevlon Thomas and Jemar Miler of Brimmervale High have been banned, while Petersfield High’s Davion Green and Aldane Kennedy will miss their team’s final two games of this season and the first three games of next season.
The bans were handed down on Tuesday following a meeting of the Disciplinary Committee of the daCosta Cup competition.
The Brimmervale quartet were banned for their part in an incident in a Zone D game that they lost 4-1 to St Mary High, and as a result, the school’s ground has been banned for the remainder of the season and one game next year.
Additionally, Brimmervale was reprimanded for not having adequate security and a playing area that was not roped properly. The school has been mandated to have at least four senior teachers to assist with security for next season.
Green, the Petersfield goalkeeper and Kennedy, will both miss the last two games of this season as well as the first three next year and the Petersfield home field has also been banned for five games.
The players were implicated in an incident that took place late in the Zone E game that was tied at 0-0 at the Petersfield grounds on October 6.
Kennedy was cited for allegedly throwing a chair at a teacher from Mannings School.
Additionally, Petersfield will have to play their first three games next season away from home.
The Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) disciplinary committee, however, commended Petersfield’s principal Eugenie Spence for suspending all the players for a minimum of two days following counselling and probation, a release from ISSA said.
Mannings, meantime, were awarded full points and two goals from the game plus another three points from an unplayed game against Little London to move to 20 points going into yesterday’s round of games.
