Tank-Weld conquer Scotiabank in 5-A-Side tourney
DEFENDING champion Tank-Weld Metals defeated Scotiabank Group 2-0 in the Division One final of the 2010 Business House Five-A-Side Football competition on Tuesday at the NWC playfield, Mona.
The game was an evenly contested affair, with national goal keeper Richard ‘Spoon” McCallum making some brilliant saves to prevent Donovan Hibbert, Damion Gordon, Akeem Themstead and Nicholas McCreath from scoring.
Scotiabank’s goalkeeper, Damion Crooks was also busy between the sticks, as he also prevented Jermaine Gray, Theo Brown, Jonothan Williams and Lorenzo Johnson from scoring. The game swung in Tank-Weld’s favour in the 46th minute when Scotiabank defender, Damion Gordon was red-carded for a dangerous tackle on Damion Robinson. The game ended 0-0 and went into extra time. Jermaine Gray scored a double in the 64th and 70th minutes to ensure that his team remained champion. They also won $60,000, with the runner-up getting $30,000.
Scotiabank Group B was the most disciplined team, receiving just one yellow card after playing 14 matches. Klas Sports FM 89, being the most improved team and Michael Lewis and Garfield Robinson of NWC being the manager and coach of the season respectively.
