The way forward
Dear Editor,
Jean Lowrie-Chin’s article of October 11, “Who shall unite us?” is timely.
It may surprise you to know that I think that deep down we are naturally a united people.
However, I think that we are thirsty for leadership which would help us realise our potential.
In so doing I truly believe that we will be motivated and committed to punch way above our weight class.
The way forward is multi-dimensional, but I suggest three things are necessary:
* We need inspired, firm, honest, transparent leadership in all areas – politics, business, churches, civil society. I have a “likkle but tallawah” mantra.
*We need to reform our democracy to enable the people’s voice to be more central to our direction.
* We need to (1) empower our people to their best capabilities as well as (2) unleash our businesses to their optimum wealth potential. I think that were we to start walking down these tracks, we would be setting a better stage for a more prosperous 50 years for our children.
