Water woes in Santa Cruz
SANTA CRUZ, St Elizabeth — The National Water Commission says it is working to restore water to areas in and around Santa Cruz “sometime on the weekend”.
Residents of the area have been without piped water since Tuesday because of what the NWC said was “high turbidity” leading to low quality, caused by the recent heavy rains associated with Tropical Storm Nicole.
A representative of the NWC’s Community Relations Department told the Observer yesterday that the water company was working “non-stop” in a bid to correct the problem at the just over year-old Content Well in St Elizabeth.
The NWC said that even after the return of service, customers should boil water before use because of “residual effects” from the recent flooding.
Areas listed by the NWC as being most affected were Rocky Hill, the town of Santa Cruz itself, Beadle’s Heights, Beadle’s Boulevard, Providence Acre, Institution Drive, New River, Brighton, Bybrook and Windsor Heights.
