Whitmore selects three ‘ballers for overseas trip
The two-day Digicel Caribbean Cup Football Clinic came to an exciting close on Wednesday when head coach for the training camp, Theodore ‘Tappa’ Whitmore, selected Dujon Williams, Kendon Anderson and Romony Hilton as the three representatives that will enjoy an all expense-paid trip to Antigua for a week to watch the Digicel Caribbean Cup.
A proud Whitemore commented on the display of passion in the training camp. “I am very impressed with the boys who participated in this training camp — they were very disciplined, focused and eager to grasp what we had to offer them,” said the coach for Jamaica’s senior Reggae Boyz.
“It was a very tough decision in selecting the three players to go to Antigua to watch the Digicel Caribbean Cup, but this in itself is a testament to the fact that our schoolboy football programme is producing high quality players,” he added.
The camp, which focused on honing and refining players’ skills and effecting a greater appreciation for the sport, gave participants the option to choose which area of football they would like to improve on. The players were then subjected to intense counselling sessions lead by Whitmore and a team of four other coaches with the focus on solid technical foundation skills such as shooting and ball controll.
Digicel’s head of marketing, Donovan White, said: “Digicel is undoubtedly one of the biggest supporters of sports in Jamaica and the region. We understand and believe in the value that sports can bring to all involved.”
The team consisting of Whitmore and the three selected players will be in Antigua from November 6-16 to see the games.
