Mais clears air on perceived dispute with Captain Burrell
TOLL GATE, Clarendon — Chairman of the Sports Development Foundation (SDF) David Mais has poured cold water on the idea that there is bad-blood between himself and Captain Horace Burrell, president of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF).
Mais, who was making the keynote address at the Clarendon Football Association’s annual awards ceremony on Thursday night, said while they have “sparred publicly”, it must in no way be mistaken for a dispute.
“A lot of persons believe that because we have sparred publicly about the building of football fields and so on we have an issue, but there’s no issue between myself and Captain Burrell,” Mais declared. “We just have different views on how certain things are done.”
The SDF chairman was making reference to Captain Burrell’s recent comments charging the state-run organisation to change the way it does business.
The JFF boss, speaking at the launch of this season’s Digicel Premier League (DPL), said instead of going around the island “trying to (build) 20 facilities” the SDF should concentrate its energies on building four 10,000-seater multi-purpose facilities at specific locations which would enable Jamaica to host international events.
But in his response, Mais, who was also in attendance at the DPL launch, said while he has taken note of Burrell’s comments, his organisation has its own agenda to work with.
