Flexxing with Nikki Z
With a captivating style, both in appearance and charisma, Nikki Z has definitely defined an ultimate diva.
This passionate radio personality, whose real name is Nicole Duhaney, was born to parents who both came from St Elizabeth Jamaica.
While in college Nikki enrolled in the army after seeing army commercials, which to her at the time “looked like fun”. At the age of 17 she was touring Saudi Arabia where she specialised in E-4. After a six month stint in the army, Nikki was introduced to radio through a friend and since then she has worked with a number of radio stations, including; Jamz 910 where she hosted a show called Caribbean Jamz, BET’s “Turn-Style” in New York City and then power 104.1 in Connecticut as a late night broadcaster for the Wendy William’s Show.
Nikki Z came on to the Jamaican scene in 2006, working on Zip 103 FM where she learned how to use turn-tables and became one of the top radio-personalities of the island. However many challenges were faced and after two years she left Zip to pursue other interests.
Currently Nikki Z works with BBC 1xtra, Irie Jam in New York and has recently signed to the number one hip hop and R&B station in Connecticut Hot 93.7. She is also the creator and producer for the Caribbean Radio Programme, World Caribbean Countdown. The show which airs in Nairobi, Kenya; the Virgin Islands, British Virgin Islands, St Vincent and the Grenadines and will soon be ared at SunCity FM which is located in Portmore, Jamaica. The show aims to accurately reflect the top songs being played that get the Caribbean people excited.
When not working, Nikki enjoys sleeping, going to the beach, fishing and other outdoor activities. She describes her style as exactly how she describes herself, very spontaneous as it changes everyday. She also aims to get more involved in artistic development by having seminars as she strongly believes in reinforcing the passion in the industry.
She advises TEENS that “while your working, take the time to find something that you like, find your niche and focus on it, work your way into doing what you really want to do and find happiness”.
