Reno outscore St George’s at Frome
FROME, Westmoreland — Second half goals from Troy Reid and Craig Foster guided Reno to a 2-1 win over St Georges Sports Club in their Digicel Premier League first round game played at the Frome Sports Club on Sunday.
Despite the entire second half being played in driving rain, the teams managed to produce better football than the first half that saw few chances at goal and several turnovers in the mid field as the teams battled to get the upper hand.
Reid, who was playing his first game of the season, was rewarded for his industry with a goal in the 67th minute, but was shown the yellow card after taking off his jersey in the celebrations afterwards.
Foster added a second in the 80th minute from a defensive error, while St Georges, who are rooted at the bottom of the points table, got their goal from Horace James in time added.
The win, Reno’s third in seven games, kept the Westmoreland club in the top half, in fifth position on 11 points.
The diminutive Reid, who was busy in the first half, opened the scoring 22 minutes in the second half when he beat two defenders on the left side before blasting the ball past goalkeeper Ralston Robinson at the near right post.
Reno’s goalkeeper Dennis Taylor preserved his team’s lead in the 76th minute when he managed to block a shot from James at point blank range, pushing it over the bar for a corner.
Foster added to Reno’s lead 10 minute from the end when he capitalised on an error.
James pulled a goal back for his team in time added on when he finally breached the Reno defence from close range.
