“Once the sun goes down, summer love ain’t always gonna be around “.

TRUE words from the up-and-coming artiste Denyque, who is fast becoming a sensation with her soulful Rhythm and Blues/Reggae, tracks.

The 20-year-old singer/songwriter has now reached a level of musical maturity, and is seeing her summer hit Summer Love continuously rising in popularity and claiming spaces on the charts.

Denyque Dontre grew up in the cool parish of Manchester where she attended Bel-Air High School. Always singing for friends and herself, young Denyque at age 16 was urged to enter the popular talent competiton Digicel Rising Stars.

Although that did not work out for her, Denyque would not stop trying and after enrolling into the University of Technology, it was there she realised that music was her ultimate goal, something that her father would not facilitate. “I wanted to do music so badly and in the end I was forced to choose between school and music; and well my love for music won,” Denyque said.

In 2009, she recorded her debut single Can’t Breathe. Described by many as the perfect track to launch a vocalist’s career as the lyrics of the song were accentuated by her beautiful voice.

“Each time I get ready to put a song out there, I get really nervous. It’s a feeling that I can’t explain, almost like I can’t breathe,” she said laughingly referring to the track.

The young artiste has conquered a number of stages, performing at various events across the island, from Tuesday Nights at Village to Digicel’s Reggae Sumfest Talent Stage.

As recently as Summer, the artiste was given the opportunity to tour the US opening for veteran songstress Nadine Sutherland for two months; an experience she says has taught her much.

“Touring gave me the opportunity to work on perfecting my stage craft, execution and delivery, and understanding various audiences,” Denyque said humbly.

The ‘Supergirl’ as she is affectionately called, has released a slew of singles since her introduction. Songs like Summer Love, Hooked On Me, Juggling Hearts and Not What I’m Used To have been getting regular airplay.

“Fans can definitely expect a lot more music from Denyque,” the artiste said. She also went on to say to our young people that, “believe in yourselves and nothing is impossible”.
