A Christmas gift from Everglades
CLARK’S TOWN, Trelawny — MAYOR of Falmouth councillor Colin Gager’s annual Christmas treat has received a boost.
Last week officials from Everglades Farms — owners and operators of the Long Pond Sugar Factory and the Hampden distillery — presented the mayor with a cheque for $50,000 towards the annual event.
“I think the lives of these people who we serve will be greatly enhanced by the gesture from Everglades Farms,” Gager said in accepting the donation. The gesture “epitomises the depth of the company’s social side”, he added.
“Everglades Farms didn’t have to do it, but when I approached them and made the request, the company did not hesitate to pledge their commitment towards my Christmas treat,” said an elated mayor Gager.
Everglades Farms’ public relations manager, Christopher Hylton said his company was humbled by the request from Gager.
“We could not refuse to be a part of the mayor’s annual Christmas treat this year, these are the kinds of social ventures that Everglades is committed to,” said Hylton.
The mayor’s Christmas treat is an annual event which caters for over 100 homeless and shut-in persons in Trelawny.
