Fan Appreciation Day set for New Year’s
MCKAY Security & Investment Services, Wray & Nephew and Eat N’ Enjoy are partnering with promoting company Caymanas Track Limited (CTL) to promote Fan Appreciation Raceday programme as a memorable event to usher in the start of the 2011 racing season both on and off the track on New Year’s Day at Caymanas Park.
The 9th running of the McKay Security and Consultants Trophy, for horses in the $180,000 claiming spread, will highlight the day’s 10-race card that will be run over a distance of 1,820 metres for a purse of $1,000,000 of which $500,000 is contributed by McKay Security and Consultants Limited.
Chris Armond, CTL’s acting CEO and director of marketing, made the announcement at a press launch at the Trainers Room at Caymanas Park in St Catherine yesterday, where racing secretary Denzil Miller Jnr also gave a brief outline of the day’s racing programme.
Other prominent races on the programme include the New Year’s Day Trophy for native-bred four-year-olds upward (NW3 other than maiden and/or maiden claiming) over 1,300 metres for a purse of $700,000 and the CTL Fan Appreciation Day Trophy (Gr.111) for Overnight Allowance horses three-year-olds upward over 2,200 metres for a purse of $815,000.
Shifting to the off the track scenario to fete the thousands of patrons expected to turn out for the gala spectacle, Wray & Nephew — through its Overproof Rum — will partner with CTL to launch Happy Days at the Races by initiating the concept of putting additional excitement into each race by matching a Wray & Nephew drink brand to each horse in each race.
At the end of each race, whichever horse wins carrying the name of the particular product, that product will be sold for 25 per cent less at the bar until the next race is run.
Meals will also be served at reduced prices by both Eat N’ Enjoy and Caymanas Park caterer Racquel Roach, who will reduce the cost of a lunch by $100.00 irrespective of the price and serve free soups during the off-track break periods.
