Post office sevice unreliable, says Magna

Tell Claudienne

Dear Claudienne

Could you please find out what is happending with regards to Magna Reward vouchers?

I have had a Magna card almost from the begining. I also have a ScotiaBank Magna Mastercard which I use to pay all my utilities, car and house insurance, supermarket shopping and gas for my car.

My vouchers have, in the past, been delivered through the mail system and I collected them at Duncans post office.

Since about April 2010 I have wondered what has happened to my reward and finally about a month ago I called the number on the back of my card 1-800-744-3773. This goes through to Trinidad and I was informed that vouchers in Jamaica are no longer sent to a post office box. It has to be to a ‘proper address.’

The person told me that I had two unredeemed vouchers for $5,000 +and $3,000+. I gave them full details of where my house was located which they said they had put on their computer.

I then contacted the local number 960-3637 to ask how my vouchers would get to me. I was told that they would be sent by courier and that they would send me an e-mail a few days later. You guessed it. I’m still waiting for the e-mail.

I called the local number a second time and they promised to call me back but ended the call before I could give them my contact number.

I would like my Magna Rewards. I was unaware (and friends holding Magna cards too) that the vouchers were no longer being sent to PO addresses. In the past courier services have delivered items to my house, so why not the Magna vouchers?

Please see what you can find out.

SM

The Magna office in Jamaica advised Tell Claudienne that they stopped sending vouchers via the post office because the service was unreliable. They said that in the past some of the vouchers sent via the post office would be returned to them undelivered months later.

The Magna spokesperson said that in late October/November the courier service returned some vouchers because they did not have addresses but only a Post Office box number.

Since we spoke with Magna we note that they located your July 2010 voucher for $3,144 that the courier had returned. We see that they posted it to you on Thursday, December 2 and that you have received it. The spokesperson said that in January the other voucher will be sent to a supermarket in the town where you live and you can go there to collect it.

The Magna representative assured us that she would phone you and we note that she has spoken to you.

Good luck.

Dear Claudienne

A high tension wire in Liguanea near where I live is dangerously low, and with a little breeze the wires could kiss and cause a fire. We called the Jamaica Public Service but nobody has come.

Please have this matter addressed urgently.

WC

Dear WC

We contacted the JPS and note that they have fixed the problem.

Good luck.
