Little Miami take lead in Senior League
GRANVILLE, St James — Promoted Little Miami assumed the lead in the Claro St James FA’s Senior League after beating Violet Kickers 3-0 in a first-round game at Sam Sharpe Teachers’ College on Monday.
Little Miami, the runners-up in the Claro Division One last season, are tied with Revelation FC in 12 points, but lead with a better goal difference.
The Catherine Hall-based team scored three goals in the space of 16 minutes spanning the half-time break to win consecutive games.
Alwayne Simmons gave Little Miami the lead in the 34th minute before Maundo Kellier made it 2-0 four minutes later.
Gregory Boyd scored Little Miami’s third goal in the 49th to secure the points.
Revelation, last season’s losing Senior League finalists, also won on Monday, beating last-placed Salt Spring United 3-0 at Mt Salem.
Winston Montique in the 26th minute, Orlando Gilpin in the 55th and Gary McLennon in the 76th were the scorers for Revelations, who rebounded from a loss to Granville City last week
Former national player Norman Foster scored on his seasonal debut for Melbourne as they defeated last season’s Division One champions Montego Bay Boys Club 2-1 at Albion.
Lovel Jonas shot Boys Club into the lead in the 12th minute, but Foster equalised in the 23rd before Andre Brown got the winner in the 34th minute.
Granville City could join the leaders tomorrow if they can beat Fogo United at Sam Sharpe. Salt Spring Roses and Barrett Town will meet at Albion, while Mountain Villa and North Gully Ambassadors battle at Wyndham.
