Saturday Hustle – January 29
There are a number of songs dominating the airwaves recently, from the most frequently played to the ones that ‘get the most forwards’ on the party scene. This week, Saturday Hustle plays some of 2011’s hottest tracks.
Look Pon We – Vybz Kartel featuring Russian
Love him or hate him, Vybz Kartel, who is arguably Jamaica’s most controversial dj, always keeps us talking. Even more so with his latest ‘bleaching’ antics, which he unapologetically addresses in this song. He even pokes fun of himself with lyrics like “di gyal dem love off me bleach-out face/me Michael ‘cake soap’ Jackson”.
Black and Yellow – Wiz Khalifa
The ultimate ‘flossing’ song, Wiz Khalifa’s Black and Yellow boasts about everything from cars to diamonds, and has been all over the airwaves since late last year. The song has been widely received the world over, just ask any youngster who is quick to chime in with “yeah, uh huh you know what it is/black and yellow, black and yellow…”
Firework – Katy Perry
Do you know that there’s still a chance for you
Cause there’s a spark in you,
You just gotta ignite the light,
And let it shine/ Cause baby you’re a firework
Come on show ’em what you’re worth…
International pop superstar Katy Perry has made ‘fireworks’ yet again with this, the third single on her latest album, which encourages people to believe in themselves and make a positive contribution to society.
Move Your Body – Tifa
With a killer music video, pulsating backbeat and witty lyrics, there is no doubt that Miss T-I-F-A’s infectious single will be on the charts for months into 2011.
What’s My Name – Rihanna featuring Drake
As is the case with most of Rihanna’s songs, hardly a moment passes without someone either playing or singing it. Add beloved newcomer Drake to the equation and you get an instant hit, with lots of melody too. You know, another one of those singles you just can’t get out of your head.
Jar of Hearts – Christina Perri
Up-and-coming pop artiste Christina Perri found fame after her single Jar of Hearts, a song she penned following her divorce in 2009, was featured on So You Think You Can Dance last year. The 24-year-old’s single is now enjoying heavy rotation around the world.
