Grizzlies score big win over Magic
MEMPHIS, Tennessee (AP) — Mike Conley scored 26 points and had a key late steal as the Memphis Grizzlies edged the Orlando Magic 100-97 in the NBA on Monday.
Orlando’s Gilbert Arenas made one of two foul shots to cut the Grizzlies lead to 98-97 with 40 seconds left.
Conley then stole the ball from Orlando f assists in the same game.
Lionel Hollins became the coach with most wins in Grizzlies history with 96.
Jazz 83, Bobcats 78
In Salt Lake City, undermanned Utah blocked 10 shots to hold off Charlotte. Paul Millsap grabbed two offensive rebounds off misses before being fouled with 40 seconds left. He made both free throws for an 81-78 Utah lead.
Gerald Wallace missed a 3-pointer that would have tied it for Charlotte and Jazz guard Raja Bell grabbed the defensive rebound then made both free throws for the final margin.
Al Jefferson scored 21 points and Millsap added 12 rebounds for the Jazz, who won despite being without star point guard Deron Williams for the third straight game because of a wrist injury. Stephen Jackson led Charlotte with 24 points.
Mavericks 102, Wizards 92
In Dallas, the hosts stretched their winning streak to five while keeping Washington winless on the road this season.
Dirk Nowitzki scored 24 points and Tyson Chandler added 18 points and 18 rebounds for the Mavericks.
Washington dropped their fifth straight and slipped to 0-24 on the road, the third-worst road start in NBA history. Dallas holds the record, dropping their first 29 on the road in 1992-93.
Nets 115, Nuggets 99
In Newark, New Jersey, the Nets showed Carmelo Anthony why he might want to play for New Jersey by beating Denver.
The game was the first between the teams since Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov told his team to halt extended trade talks about Anthony, saying the drawn-out negotiations were hurting his team.
Anthony showed why he is so highly valued by scoring 37 points to keep the Nuggets in the game.
Brook Lopez scored 27 points and Devin Harris had a career-high 18 assists for New Jersey.
Heat 117, Cavaliers 90
In Miami, the hosts cruised to a win that condemned hapless Cleveland to their 21st straight loss.
Miami’s Dwyane Wade scored 26 of his 34 points in the first half, while LeBron James added 24 points and eight assists against his former team.
Antawn Jamison finished with 21 points and 10 rebounds for the Cavaliers, who rallied from an early 19-point deficit to get within three in the third quarter.
But James finished off a 19-5 Heat run to end the quarter and Miami cruised from there, turning it into a romp.
Clippers 105, Bucks 98
In Los Angeles, the home team withstood a fourth-quarter challenge from Milwaukee to notch their ninth straight home win.
Blake Griffin had 32 points and 11 rebounds for his 39th double-double for the Clippers.
There was good news off the court too for Los Angeles; Eric Gordon, the Clippers’ leading scorer who was expected to be out for a month because of a right wrist injury, is now day-to-day and will join the team for their upcoming 10-game road trip.
Corey Maggette scored 25 points against his former team as the Bucks’ three-game winning streak ended.
Pacers 104, Raptors 93
In Indianapolis, Frank Vogel made a winning debut as Indiana’s interim coach, beating Toronto.
Vogel replaced Jim O’Brien, who was fired on Sunday. Vogel said he would allow Roy Hibbert to play through his mistakes, and the 2.15-meter center rewarded his new coach with 24 points and 11 rebounds — his highest-scoring game since Nov. 28.
Darren Collison and Paul George scored 16 points each for the Pacers.
Amir Johnson led Toronto with 18 points as the Raptors’ losing skid reached 12 games and they gave up 100 points or more for the eighth straight game.
