Talk Up Yout explores HIV/AIDS, bleaching and much more issues
JAMAICA’S revolutionised youth talk show, Talk Up Yout, has continued to reach out to Jamaican youths by discussing issues that they face on a regular basis. Last Tuesday, the second episode focused on the increase in people who have taken up the practice of bleaching their skin.
Hostess Emprezz Mullings sat down with two guests, who have been through the bleaching process, in an attempt to gain information on everything possible surrounding the issue. By doing this, she was able to give viewers new information on the prevalent issue faced by many youths today.
Dr Patrece Charles-Freeman, a Talk Up Yout counsellor also made an appearance, where she gave commentary on the subject matter and pointed out some of the main reasons why today’s youth bleach.
The show concluded with a performance from dub poet Steppa who enforced the message for that week, which was ‘Black is Beautiful’. With the assistance of visual and audio effects, the show was able to seize and keep the attention of their viewers, while keeping them informed on skin bleaching.
Overall, last week’s show had good presentation techniques and the environmental setting seemed friendly and relaxed. By interviewing actual persons who once bleached their skin, and by getting professionals to speak on the issue, Emprezz and the viewers were able to receive a better understanding of the causes and effects. Most importantly, the viewers were exposed to the negative effects, and ways that the issue can be minimised and eliminated.
