Contender fever spreads in Ja
THE Wray & Nephew Contender has seen a steady increase in the number of fans turning out to watch the exciting elimination boxing series that enters its sixth week.
And as the competition moves into higher gear, Jamaicans seemed to have caught the bug and each week the enthusiasm and sheer excitement build as some of the island’s top pugilists battle for the right to the $1-million bounty, which the last man standing will take home.
Wray & Nephew’s brand sales manager, Dominic Beckford, said: “We (Wray & Nephew) are pleased to be the title sponsor of the Contender, as well as a catalyst for bringing more celebrity to boxing in Jamaica.”
“Jamaica has produced several boxing champs, in the form of Mike McCallum, Lennox Lewis and many others. The Contender gives Jamaicans the opportunity to see the work put into preparing a fighter as well as understand the sport (and) Wray & Nephew couldn’t be any happier to be the title sponsors of this epic series,” said Beckford.
The Wray & Nephew Contender will be running for another 10 weeks, and will see the remaining competitors from the Green-Urban Team challenge the Yellow-Rural Team, until one champion is named. The show is filmed in front of a live audience every Wednesday on TVJ at 9:30 pm.
