Wood Hall eye lead in Clarendon ML
MILK RIVER, Clarendon — Wood Hall will join Gimme-Me-Bit atop the Claro/Captain’s Bakery Clarendon Major League should they beat struggling Milk River in a fifth-round match at Path Side on today.
In another mid-week game, Rock River look to continue their resurgence with their second straight win when they play away to Longwood.
Both games are scheduled for a 3:00 pm start.
Wood Hall, who are returning to parish football after spending one season in the South Central Confederation Super League, are off to a decent start with three victories and a loss and are third on nine points.
A win against Milk River will now see them leapfrogging second-placed Spartan Athletic (10 points) and go joint top, but will need a five-goal victory to go past Gimme-Me-Bit, who have a superior goal difference.
Milk River went unbeaten until the last four games last season, which saw them settling for a second-place finish behind New Bowens, but a failure to retain their top players means that they are now struggling to find form.
They are second-from-bottom in the 10-team league on two points from four games.
Meantime, Gimme-Me-Bit are now the sole leaders on 12 points following a 4-1 thrashing of the previously unbeaten Original Hazard at the weekend.
Oliver Tobonnah grabbed a late brace for the leaders after Davian Mitchell had given them a 1-0 lead on 10 minutes, while Mark Robinson completed the rout two minutes from time.
At Clarendon College, Oraine Walters’ first-half brace gifted Rock River a 2-1 win against Free Town for their first win of the campaign, which moved them three places up to seventh.
Wood Hall edged past York Town 1-0, while the other game between Spartan Athletic and Milk River ended in a 0-0 stalemate.
