H’View, Boys’ Town end goal-less
It was a testimonial match for former Harbour View and national player Barrington ‘Cobra’ Gaynor, but Boys’ Town turned in a commanding performance and almost stole the show in a 0-0 draw in their Digicel Premier League encounter at the Compound yesterday.
Boys’ Town dominated from the outset and were unlucky not to walk away with three points being clearly the better team on the night.
The Andrew Price-coach outfit remained in second spot on 49 points, six points behind leaders Tivoli Gardens who clipped Waterhouse 2-1 in their game at Drewsland. Champions Harbour View moved to 46 points in fourth spot and nine points behind the leaders.
Head coach Donovan Hayles conceded that his team was second best on the day and were never in the game. “When I saw we didn’t pick it up in the second half, I was saying this is a game gone from us. In terms of run of play and run of luck, we were the luckier team and we were totally under the guns of Boys’ Town,” said Hayles.
With eight games remaining for the season, Hayles still harbours thought of retaining the DPL. “This team is a team that never say die and once there is a mathematical chance, we give ourselves a chance.”
It was the same old story for Boys’ Town’s coach Price as he saw his team dominate an opponent with good attacking, off-the-ball-running football, but failed to capitalised on the opportunities.
Said Price: “This is nothing different, we have been playing well, moving the ball around well, defend stoutly but not being very clinical in front of goal and that’s wha’s affecting us right now.”
Meanwhile, Gaynor who is suffering from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) or the Lou Gehrigs disease, which has him wheelchair bound, was honoured during the half-time break.
Gaynor, 45, and his family received a cheque of $200,000 from David Mais, chairman of the state agency, the Sports Development Foundation (SDF).
His former club Bull Bay where he played and coached, courtesy of president Leroy Gordon, donated $10,000 along with Waterhouse FC which chipped in with $25,000.
