Greenwich Town to collect Major League bounty today
After securing the Claro/KSAFA Major League title with a 2-0 victory over Allman/Woodford last weekend, Greenwich Town will have their trophy presented to them this afternoon when they play away to Browns Town at Vauxhall High School in their final match of the season.
The Major League champion reached an unassailable 39 points after beating Allman/Woodford 2-0 to take their points tally to seven ahead of second-placed Olympic Gardens, who lost their previous game 0-1 to Police National and their chance for the title with two rounds of matches to play.
In this weekend’s other penultimate round games, Olympic Gardens take on Seaview at Cling Cling Oval, Allman/Woodford host Police at the National Heroes Circle and Shortwood host Molynes United at Shortwood Teacher’s College. All games are scheduled to start at 3:30 pm.
Meanwhile, the race for second place and promotion to next season’s Super League competition continues in earnest with four teams in contention.
Just a point separates second from fourth, with Olympic on 32, Cooreville 31 and Police on 30, while fifth-placed Shortwood are just two point adrift of Police on 28 points.
Olympic can pull further away from Cooreville, while Police can overtake them and Shortwood can join them on points if they all win today, as Cooreville will rest this weekend.
However, securing maximum points today will be crucial for all these teams, as they all will be involved in next weekend’s final round of games with the hope of playing in the Super League next season.
