Cocktails With — Racquel Maragh
Assertive and well mannered, Racquel Maragh is a marketing account executive at Lannaman and Morris Shipping, owned and operated by her father Harry Maragh.
Mid-week finds her in chill mode at Susie’s. As she orders her beverage of choice from the familiar bartender, the 27-year-old Eckard College grad with double majors in international business and creative writing (who’s also currently pursuing a Master’s degree at Caribbean Maritime Institute) dishes with us.
What are you sipping?
A mojito.
What’s in it?
Mint, lime juice, sugar, Appleton Genesis and soda water.
So, what do you like about Susie’s?
It’s very laid-back and I like the staff. My family also has a personal relationship with Susie Hanna.
Socialite or homebody?
I’m definitely a homebody.
Flats or stilettos?
Flats.
What’s your must-have accessory?
A trendy handbag… a girl can never have enough handbags.
What’s your style?
Typically casual…whatever makes me feel comfortable.
What’s in your handbag?
My cellphones, lip gloss, diary, pen, wallet, Lubriderm lotion and my car keys, of course.
What perfume are you spraying?
Flower by Kenzo… I’m absolutely in love with the fragrance and the way it makes me feel.
Who does your hair?
Carlene at Manor Collections in Manor Park.
Who does your nails?
Keisha at Manor Collections.
When you’re not working, where’s the best place to find you?
At home hanging with my significant other.
What’s in your car stereo/on your iPod?
I have been listening to India.Arie and Sade a lot lately, but mostly whatever makes me feel happy.
What’s your idea of the perfect date?
I’m not particularly fussy about where a guy takes me on the first date, I’m more interested in how he treats me on that date. As long as I’m comfortable around the person and he can make me laugh and keep the conversation going, well, that’s my perfect date right there!
What’s your idea of the perfect man?
Someone who is kind, considerate, caring and genuine.
What projects are you working on?
I’m currently pursuing my Master’s at Caribbean Maritime Institute in Logistics and Supply Chain Management.
Who or what inspires you?
My parents, because without their unconditional love and support I would not have accomplished half the things I have managed to. Their constant love makes me stronger everyday.
What’s the best piece of advice you received?
I’d have to say Mahatma Gandhi’s quote: “Be the change you want to see in the world.”
And 10 years from now?
Hopefully married and having started a family. I would also want to have made progress by then in my father’s company so that I can make him proud by possibly taking over someday and running it with the same level of dedication and perseverance.
