Man accused of stealing dog freed of robbery charge
A man who was accused of stealing a dog from a yard in Kingston was freed of a charge of robbery with aggravation when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court this week.
The accused, Joseph Benjamin, 25, a resident of Mountain View Avenue in Kingston, was arrested on January 29 following allegations that he stole a one-year-old German shepherd dog. He maintained that he was innocent.
On Tuesday when the case was called up the complainant told the court that he did not wish to pursue the matter but Senior Magistrate Judith Pusey was not keen to drop the case.
“That is what you want, what about me?” Pusey asked the complainant, amidst laughter from the court.
She then turned to Benjamin and asked if he was going to pay the man for his dog, but Benjamin maintained that he did not steal the dog.
“He is telling a lie on me,” he said.
“That’s it; I can’t bother with this excitement,” the magistrate said before handing down a no-order ruling.
