John Mills take lead at All-Age and Junior Champs
DEFENDING champions John Mills took the early lead in the 32nd INSPORTS All-Age and Junior High Athletics Championship at the National Stadium, closing the first day atop the standings with 67 points.
After five finals, arch-rivals Windward Road are second on 53 points, well clear of Central Branch All-Age, 19, and Cockburn Gardens, 13.
Individually, the day belonged to Windward Road’s Kiona Bradshaw who set a new mark in the Girls shot put Open by hurling a massive 10.03 metres to break Marsha Campbell’s 15-year-old mark of 9.90m.
Central Branch had a ‘quinella’ in the first final of the day — the Boys long lump Class 3 — with Bradley Milford talking gold with 5.09m and Carnett Abbott second with 5.06. Jason Terrelonge of John Mills was third with 4.91.
Rene Medley gave John Mills their first gold medal by taking the Girls high jump Class 1 with 1.60m ahead of the Windward Road pair of Lisa Blackwood (1.50) and Chantina Downer (1.40).
Windward Road’s Jody-Ann Porter claimed third with 4.13 metres.
Five finals will be contested today: Boys high jump Class 2; Boys long jump Class 1; Boys shot put Open; Girls high jump Class 3 and Boys long jump Class 2.
