THIS week’s Tech 5 is all about android smartphones, which are in fact the new TEEN craze. It seems everybody wants to have one and TEENage is bringing to you the latest, “more” affordable phones that have been released and will be released this year.
Samsung i9200 Galaxy S2
Expected to be released really soon, the Samsung i9200 Galaxy S2 will run all Android with a 2GHz processor. This Galaxy boasts a 4.3 inch 1280 x 720 pixel super AMOLED 2 display. Samsung can safely say, no smartphone planning to release in the near future can claim a display that good. Its features also include an 8-megapixel camera with HD video capture, 1 GB RAM, 32 GB of built in flash memory, Bluetooth 3.0, 3.5mm audio jack, gyroscope, accelerometer, proximity and ambient light sensors.
Sony Ericsson Xperia X8
Sony Ericsson has released a number of smartphones in their Android line-up. The next phone in the Xperia series which runs on Android is the Xperia X8. It is positioned between the Xperia X10 and the Xperia X10 Mini in terms of size, and will be priced lower than both.
This Android driven mid-range smartphone will have a three inch, HVGA touch screen and a 600 MHz processor. The Xperia X8 is also equipped with an FM radio, 3.5mm handset jack, 128 MB of internal memory, audio video player and YouTube application.
The X8 also features a 3.2 megapixel camera with geotagging and direct Facebook picture upload function. It is one of the few budget smartphones running Android and offers almost all the basic features you would expect.
HTC Vision
The HTC Vision will have a 3.7 inch 480 x 800 pixel display and will sport a one GHz processor. This QWERTY slider phone is rumoured to have a five to eight-megapixel auto focus camera and will run on Android 2.1. There are rumours that the device may be called G1 Blaze and is likely to arrive sooner than we think.
Dell Smoke with Froyo
Dell Smoke Featuring Android 2.2 ‘Froyo’, Dell’s latest smartphone, the Smoke, is packed with a bunch of fancy UI and form factor features. The Dell Smoke will have a 2.8 inch QVGA screen, five megapixel auto focus camera, 800MHz processor, 512 MB RAM, and 256 MB internal memory (expandable up to 32GB). With full flash support, Exchange and ActiveSync and 14.4 Mbps HSDPA speed, the Dell Smoke certainly looks to compete with business phones like BlackBerry by Q2 2011.
Acer StreamAcer
Acer StreamAcer has announced the launch of the Android 2.1 driven smartphone, the Acer Stream. This new Android phone is a multimedia device with a 3.7-inch AMOLED display and 5-megapixel camera with 720p HD video capture. It will have 1 GHz Qualcomm snapdragon processor and 2GB of internal flash storage. Completing the Acer’s package is its pre installed social networking application and built in Wi-Fi. This Android device will also boasts an FM radio and Dolby Digital surround sound.
