Summerbell: David vs Goliath?
DAVID Summerbell Jnr is an internationally accomplished and recognised race driver, with over 18 years experience and almost as many racing titles to his credit.
Introduced to racing by his father, a veteran racer, David Jr has raced and won on everything from go-karts to motorcycles to formula cars. He can list titles that few others can boast such as:
* American Pro Rally Champion
* Three-time Caribbean Circuit racing champion
* Seven-time Dover Champion
* Three-time JMMC Sprint National champion
* Three-time JMMC Dexterity National champion
* 2006 JMMC Rally Team Champion
* Nominated for Sportsman of the year
* Winner of Trinidad International Stages Rally
* Winner of Jamaica International Stages Rally
* Holder of track record at Dover Raceway
* Holder of track record at former Wallerfield Track, Trinidad.
David Jr wears two hats in racing, that of driver and of organiser. He has been an active member of the JRDC executive since 2004, holding the post of secretary for four consecutive years. Along with the other members of the executive, David Jr has had a hand in considerable renovations to the track and its facilities, as well as in the various initiatives and strategies which have helped return circuit racing to primacy in Jamaican auto sport.
In addition to racing titles, the name David Summerbell is synonymous with relentless determination and energy.
While recognised as the most accomplished driver in the island, it is his signature charismatic personality that encourages legions of supporters to come out to races and participate with him. Not only do they come to see his driving skills, they are always fascinated by the machine he’s driving.
The 2011 series will now pit his Mitsubishi VIII against the powerhouse Audi TT driven by his friend and driving foe Doug Gore.
With a long history of success in racing, and following on the achievements of the JRDC, David says he intends to continue serving motor sport by racing his best and in giving back to the sport by building and developing motor racing for future generations.
