Monymusk in Super League semi-finals
LIONEL TOWN, Clarendon — Monymusk confirmed their place in the semi-finals of the South Central Confederation Super League following their 2-0 win over relegation-threatened Newell at Monymusk in midweek.
The victory carried the Clarendon side to 26 points, which means they cannot be caught by third-placed Downs (20) with only this weekend’s round of games remaining in the preliminary phase.
Monymusk, who are making the semis for the first time, finished as runners-up to Group B winners and defending champions Meadows (32) and will now meet Group A winners Rivoli United in the last-four.
Meadows’ semi-final opponents are yet to be confirmed, though it’s likely to be parish mates Bodles (20), who are currently second in Group A and only need a point against relegated New Bowens in Clarendon tomorrow to advance.
Meanwhile, Wednesday’s defeat to Monymusk has left Newell (12) survival hopes hanging by a thread as they remained second-from-bottom and will need to win their two remaining games at home against fellow strugglers Tru-Juice (16) tomorrow and title-favourites Meadows next Wednesday.
This result is another bitter blow for the St Elizabeth Football Association, which had two teams relegated from the competition last season and is likely to have only one on show again next season.
In other games tomorrow, Rivoli host Dela Vega City at the Spanish Town Prison Oval and Monymusk travel to Naggo Head.
All games are set to kick-off at 3:30 pm.
