Alpha, Mona into hockey semis
Only Alpha Academy and Mona High girls have secured their places in the semi-finals of the schools Under-16 hockey competitions with just one or two matches remaining in the preliminary rounds of in both boys’ and girls’ action.
Alpha and Mona, both from Zone B, completed their preliminary rounds with identical six points, ahead of Papine High girls and The Queens, who both finished on three points.
In Zone A, leaders and defending champions St Andrew High (seven points) will play cellar team Wolmer’s Girls (no point) in a rescheduled match early this week to officially book their semi-final place.
However, it would be no surprise if the Wolmerians fail to honour their fixture, which will facilitate the path of the defending champions.
Immaculate, St Hugh’s and Excelsior High schools are battling for the other semi-final spot in Zone A. Second-placed Immaculate Conception High (six points) just need a victory against Excelsior High in a rescheduled match to roll into the May 4 semi-final.
For the boys, none of them have yet confirmed a place in the top four, but unbeaten Tivoli Gardens High and Kingston College are locked on 12 points to lead Zone A.
In Zone B, Jamaica College lead with 10 points after four games, with Munro College and Papine High, who have played two and one fewer matches, respectively, than the leaders, well-positioned to fight for the a place in next month’s semi-final.
St Andrew High duo Tennesia Jackson and Abigail Lumsden, Alpha Academy’s Jeneil Guy, and Papine High’s Samantha Jones are the leading goalscorers for the girls all with three goals each.
